It\u2019s a legitimate service that monitors for any actions taken against your title.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, whether subscribing to this service is worth it is up for debate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reviews from third-party publications and review sites are lukewarm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparitech.com\/identity-theft-protection\/reviews\/home-title-lock-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Comparitech<\/a> gives Home Title Lock a rating of 1.5 out of 5.0 stars. Its verdict is that there are better alternatives out there: <em>\u201cI don\u2019t believe Home Title Lock offers enough features for what it charges.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>User reviews of Home Title Lock are mixed.\u00a0 For example, the service receives 3.8 out of 5.0 stars (based on 26 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustpilot.com\/review\/hometitlelock.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trustpilot<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/community.alta.org\/discussion\/opinion-on-title-lock-and-similar-services-being-offered-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online forums<\/a>, people don\u2019t seem to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/RealEstate\/comments\/hqq5vw\/home_title_lock_scam_or_just_scummy_us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see much point<\/a> in services like Home Title Lock.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/RealEstate\/comments\/1cwasin\/home_title_lock_questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One person<\/a> said:<em> \u201cIn absolutely no way does a company like title lock actually protect or prevent fraudulent stuff with a home. It just hopefully notifies you of it so you can do something about it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockreddit.png\" alt=\"Reddit post about Home Title Lock and about how it &quot;just monitors publicly available documents looking for the relevant addresses.&quot; \" class=\"wp-image-18144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockreddit.png 745w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockreddit-300x81.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/news\/title-lock-insurance-is-a-waste-of-your-money\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview with FOX5 Atlanta<\/a>, FOX5 real estate expert John Adams noted the following about title lock services like those provided by Home Title Lock:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Title lock subscription doesn\u2019t prevent fraud; it only notifies you after the fact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No legal protection or recovery support is offered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You still legally own your home if fraud occurs because fraudulent deeds are not valid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Title insurance (a different product) already protects against legitimate ownership disputes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most counties let you monitor title records for free online.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actual title theft is rare and can usually be resolved in court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In<a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/consumer-alerts\/2024\/08\/home-title-lock-insurance-not-lock-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> a 2024 consumer alert<\/a>, the Federal Trade Commission warned consumers that home title lock insurance services cannot <em>prevent <\/em>home title theft; they can only monitor for it and alert you <em>after <\/em>the fact.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockconsumeralert.png\" alt=\"Home Title Lock insurance consumer alert from the Federal Trade Commission\" class=\"wp-image-18145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockconsumeralert.png 864w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockconsumeralert-300x93.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockconsumeralert-768x237.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, in an even earlier (2022) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov\/press\/2022\/062722CA.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">consumer alert<\/a>, Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh said: <em>\u201cYou don\u2019t need to purchase title lock insurance. It neither locks nor insures your home title against fraud.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Title Lock notes that it can\u2019t prevent home title fraud in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hometitlelock.com\/terms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">terms of service<\/a>: <em>\u201cUNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED IN WRITING <\/em><strong><em>HOME TITLE LOCK DOES NOT WARRANT THAT ANY PRODUCTS OR SERVICES CAN OR WILL PREVENT A FRAUDULENT TITLE EVENT.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"142\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelocktermsofservice-1024x142.png\" alt=\"Home Title Lock terms of service:  &quot;UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED IN WRITING HOME TITLE LOCK DOES NOT WARRANT THAT ANY PRODUCTS OR SERVICES CAN OR WILL PREVENT A FRAUDULENT TITLE EVENT.\u201d\u00a0\" class=\"wp-image-18146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelocktermsofservice-1024x142.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelocktermsofservice-300x42.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelocktermsofservice-768x106.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelocktermsofservice.png 1517w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Title Lock is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/us\/fl\/coral-springs\/profile\/threat-and-fraud-assessment\/home-title-lock-0633-92030728\/complaints\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited<\/a>.\u00a0Read our review of <a href=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/is-it-scam\/is-the-bbb-a-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whether the BBB is a scam<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Misleading advertising<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Consumer advocates have accused Home Title Lock of misleading and alarmist ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These ads frequently claim that home title theft is a widespread and rapidly growing threat, sometimes attributing warnings to the FBI that the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/prolific-ads-featuring-wing-icons-push-questionable-claims\/story?id=85365286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has never issued<\/a>. An FBI public affairs officer said, \u201cWe cannot find any source for that quote.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Association of Consumer Advocates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.checkbook.org\/national\/home-title-monitoring-services-mislead-about-a-rare-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criticized<\/a> Home Title Lock for using \u201cscare tactics.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/prolific-ads-featuring-wing-icons-push-questionable-claims\/story?id=85365286\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News investigation<\/a> found that two individuals featured as title theft victims in Home Title Lock\u2019s ads lost their homes through unrelated legal means, not title fraud. After being contacted by reporters, the company removed those stories from its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, Texas Attorney General Paxton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/paxton-announces-investigation-home-title-lock-potentially-misleading-texas-consumers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched an investigation<\/a> into Home Title Lock for potential violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City attorneys in San Francisco and San Diego <a href=\"https:\/\/sfcityattorney.org\/2023\/04\/10\/san-francisco-and-san-diego-city-attorneys-subpoena-home-title-lock-over-deceptive-advertising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subpoenaed Home Title Lock<\/a>, accusing it of \u201cdeceptive advertising.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Home Title Lock spokesperson said that the ads reflect what he and his colleagues \u201csee and hear every day.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We couldn\u2019t find much information about Home Title Lock\u2019s security measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hometitlelock.com\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>, Home Title Lock says that <em>\u201cany information you send to us electronically, while using the Home Title Lock Services or otherwise interacting with us, may not be secure when it is transmitted to us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"127\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacysecurity-1024x127.png\" alt=\"Home Title Lock privacy policy section on storage and security of information \" class=\"wp-image-18147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacysecurity-1024x127.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacysecurity-300x37.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacysecurity-768x96.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacysecurity-1536x191.png 1536w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacysecurity.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privacy&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Title Lock explains the kind of data it collects, why, and with whom it shares it in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hometitlelock.com\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It collects the following personal information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Directly from you:<\/strong> Email, phone number, address, company information, login credentials, and other voluntarily submitted data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Automatically (traffic data):<\/strong> IP address, device\/browser type, pages visited, time on site, referral sources, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Title Lock uses this information to provide services, improve offerings, communicate with you, prevent fraud, fulfill legal obligations, and advertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consent is required for marketing communication (via email, SMS, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Title Lock doesn\u2019t use automated decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It says it doesn\u2019t sell your personal information to third parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The service may share your data with partners for operational, analytical, and advertising purposes. It may also disclose your data for legal compliance, safety, or in the event of a business transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"324\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacyinfosharing-1024x324.png\" alt=\"Home Title Lock Insurance privacy policy &quot;How we share your information&quot; \" class=\"wp-image-18148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacyinfosharing-1024x324.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacyinfosharing-300x95.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacyinfosharing-768x243.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacyinfosharing-1536x486.png 1536w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/hometitlelockprivacyinfosharing.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Title Lock retains your personal information \u201cfor as long as necessary\u201d to provide you with its services and, in some cases, \u201cfor longer, if doing so is necessary to comply with our legal obligations, or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.\u201d The company does not share specific data retention timeframes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Afterward, Home Title Lock retains some of your data in a de-identified or aggregated form.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on where you live, you may be able to exercise privacy rights, like the right to access or delete your personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"so-should-you-use-home-title-lock\">So, Should You Use Home Title Lock?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Probably not.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Home Title Lock is a legitimate business, as <a href=\"https:\/\/clark.com\/homes-real-estate\/home-title-lock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Clark.com<\/a> says, you can get similar services for free:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, Clark.com says:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMany counties now offer a notification system where \u2014 as the property owner of record \u2014 you\u2019ll be notified when someone attempts an action against your title, such as taking out a loan. So start with your county. If they have the notification service, sign up for that free service, and you won\u2019t need this.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-use-home-title-lock-safely-and-privately\">How to Use Home Title Lock Safely and Privately&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Try free alternatives first. <\/strong>See if your county has a notification system you can sign up for to be notified if someone attempts to take action against your title, check your credit report for free, and monitor your bills (if you stop getting them, that could indicate identity theft).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create a strong password. <\/strong>And don\u2019t reuse it elsewhere online.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limit the amount of personal information you share with Home Title Lock.<\/strong> Only provide essential details (email, address, etc.)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use a masked email address.<\/strong> This can reduce spam and data exposure while still ensuring you get alerts and notifications.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Read Home Title Lock\u2019s terms of service and privacy policy.<\/strong> That way, you can understand exactly what you\u2019ll get when you sign up for the service and also know how your personal data is collected, stored, shared, and retained.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Opt out of marketing communications.<\/strong> Decline marketing emails and SMS texts by unchecking any boxes during signup. Use the unsubscribe links in emails to opt out of future marketing communications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exercise your privacy rights.<\/strong> Depending on where you live, you may be able to request Home Title Lock to send you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Act quickly.<\/strong> If you think you\u2019ve been a victim of identity theft, go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.identitytheft.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IdentityTheft.gov<\/a> to request a free, personalized recovery plan. Also, contact your local law enforcement and recorder\u2019s office, and file a complaint with your state Attorney General\u2019s office.
