There have been thousands of complaints filed against Temu.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with any large online marketplace, your experience will vary depending on a host of factors, such as product quality, seller reliability, and shipping times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since there are many different sellers on Temu, the quality and authenticity of products can vary hugely. Some items can be of lower quality than advertised or not match your expectations. Customers can return\/refund items within 90 days of purchasing them (not receiving them). Once you submit a return request, you need to return the package within 14 days.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.temu.com\/ie\/support\/c3\/when-will-i-receive-my-refund-how-long-does-it-take-f-51-s-131.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issue a refund<\/a>, Temu says it can take between 5-14 business days (up to 30 days) for the refund to arrive depending on your financial institution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Forced labor accusations&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to US lawmakers, there is an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-65990529\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extremely high risk<\/a>\u201d that items sold on Temu and other Chinese online shopping sites are made using forced labor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/fast-fashion-and-the-uyghur-genocide-interim-findings.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report from the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party<\/a> stated:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Temu does not have any system to ensure compliance with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). This all but guarantees that shipments from Temu containing products made with forced labor are entering the United States on a regular basis, in violation of the UFLPA.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stolen designs&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Temu has been accused of being filled with unauthorized replicas or knockoffs of popular products or products from independent brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/temustolendesigns-1024x216.png\" alt=\"Headline &quot;Aussie Designer Calls Out Temu For Stealing Her Art&quot; \" class=\"wp-image-16783\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/temustolendesigns-1024x216.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/temustolendesigns-300x63.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/temustolendesigns-768x162.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/temustolendesigns.png 1270w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.pcmag.com\/shopping\/146820\/what-is-temu-read-before-you-shop-like-a-billionaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PCMag<\/a> said they saw designer knockoffs like the Mini Glossy Solid Color Shoulder Bag, an imitation (and probably a copyright violation) of Jacquemus&#8217; Le Chiquito Moyen bag, on Temu.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/goodonyou.eco\/fast-fashions-design-theft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shein sued Temu<\/a> for design theft.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privacy concerns&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The platform has also been criticized for its privacy practices, with some reports labeling the app as spyware that collects extensive user data without clear consent. This criticism isn&#8217;t isolated; concerns were also raised about its sister app, Pinduoduo, which reportedly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Escalated its access to user data without notification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prevented itself from being uninstalled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tracked activity on other shopping apps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Following these revelations, Pinduoduo allegedly disbanded the team behind these practices, with some members moving to Temu in different roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to concerns about Chinese government interference, Temu\u2019s parent company, PDD Holdings, moved its legal base to Ireland, and Temu relocated to Boston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Temu\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.temu.com\/privacy-and-cookie-policy.html?no_cache_id=elvy7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>, the platform collects extensive user information, including data from third-party sources like social media and data brokers, building comprehensive user profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its privacy policy has been rated with a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/privacy.commonsense.org\/evaluation\/Temu-Team-Up-Price-Down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Warning<\/a>\u201d by the Common Sense Privacy Program, indicating it doesn&#8217;t meet recommended privacy and security standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although many apps collect large amounts of data, Temu has faced additional scrutiny due to allegations of facilitating Chinese government surveillance, misleading privacy labels, and a codebase that is particularly hard to analyze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"so-should-you-shop-on-temu\">So, Should You Shop on Temu?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That depends on your own personal priorities regarding cost, quality, and privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide to shop with Temu, make sure to research products and sellers, safeguard your personal data, and manage your expectations regarding quality and service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-use-temu-safely\">How to Use Temu Safely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some tips for a safer experience while shopping on Temu.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Use the Temu website rather than the app. <\/strong>Apps tend to be less privacy-friendly than websites, so if possible, use the Temu website.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mask your personal information. <\/strong>Temu receives additional data about customers from data brokers and other third parties, so try to share as little as possible with them from the get-go to make this additional data collection less fruitful. Use a masked email address, don\u2019t upload a profile picture, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Watch out for Temu scams. <\/strong>Scammers are taking advantage of Temu\u2019s popularity for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitdefender.com\/en-gb\/blog\/hotforsecurity\/7-common-temu-scams-and-how-to-avoid-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">their own benefit<\/a>. Keep an eye out for phishing scams that pretend to come from Temu (you can forward these to reportphishing@temu.com), fake Temu gift card promotions on social media, and Temu affiliate link scams.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Read the reviews. <\/strong>Always read seller reviews before you buy anything from Temu.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create a strong password. <\/strong>Don\u2019t reuse any other passwords on Temu, and make sure your password is long and complex.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Turn on 2FA. <\/strong>Enable Temu\u2019s two-factor authentication (2FA). This way, even if someone else gets their hands on your password, they still won\u2019t be able to log into your Temu account.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monitor your Temu account. <\/strong>Temu recommends that customers periodically check their accounts for any unauthorized activity.
