By linking biometric data with a person\u2019s verified identity, the app can reduce the risk of identity fraud.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, there have been incidents where Clear allowed people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/tsa-clear-secure-screening-passenger-ammo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">using false identities<\/a> to pass through its authentication system.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearme.com\/support-topics\/trust\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its website<\/a>, Clear says it protects sensitive user data (e.g., biometric data and government-issued IDs) with security measures that include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encryption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firewalls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intrusion detection and prevention systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-factor authentication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Privacy and security training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personnel security.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear has been certified by the Department of Homeland Security for meeting the government standards for protecting sensitive information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearme.com\/support\/how-does-clear-protect-my-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TSA<\/a> also found that Clear meets the NIST 800-53 HIGH baseline for security and privacy controls.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, its security program was apparently implemented in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology\u2019s Special Publication 800-53 rev 4 (a security framework).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"978\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/cleardataprotection.png\" alt=\"What steps does CLEAR take to protect my information? Unlike easily changeable information (e.g., passwords), biometrics (e.g., fingerprints and facial scans) are permanent. You can\u2019t change your fingerprint if it\u2019s compromised.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also the issue of data sharing. Clear shares information with its partners, including airlines and venues, to provide its services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Clear states in its privacy policy that this is done securely and with user consent, some users may be uncomfortable with how much control they have over where and how their data is shared\u200b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear may also disclose your information to law enforcement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear\u2019s privacy policy is <a href=\"https:\/\/privacy.commonsense.org\/evaluation\/CLEAR---Travel--Experiences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flagged with a \u201cWarning\u201d<\/a> by the Common Sense Privacy Program. For example, if you only need Clear for airport security, don\u2019t use its additional features like Health Pass or link more accounts than necessary.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Review app permissions.<\/strong> Check what permissions you\u2019ve granted the Clear app and turn off any that are not necessary.
