It is the default search engine for Microsoft Edge, the web browser that comes with Windows operating systems. Additionally, Bing powers search functionality in Yahoo! and AOL search.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It integrates with other Microsoft services, such as Cortana, the digital assistant, and Microsoft Office, offering a seamless experience for users embedded in the Microsoft ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bing is also the service powering ChatGPT\u2019s web browsing capabilities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"is-bing-safe\">Is Bing Safe?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, Bing is generally considered safe to use as a search engine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft, the company behind Bing, takes <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/microsoftsearch\/security-for-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several measures<\/a> to ensure the security of its users, including implementing HTTPS and end-to-end encryption.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXcWHFlawOwSbLNpla5c_Y_eZdDEp1_DINEbAyGin-s1Xo9G5qLvnzSl5IKK-1tjgC-LY7Gi2n5V21qhag1nulYujLuUFw1Lz6adr8GlsZFiwc69zZqGcZr2vhuFTOcqeIHQuWmz5zNTLHJJeNOzT1iEQ7HU?key=H7tjCERRXBFxrY7oCI-QLA\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It also uses a dedicated API within browsers that operates using secure encryption protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To protect users from malware and phishing attacks, Bing automatically flags suspicious websites and provides warnings before users visit them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bing has a SafeSearch feature that filters out explicit or inappropriate content from search results.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be particularly useful for parents who want to ensure their children are not exposed to harmful material while browsing the internet. SafeSearch settings can be adjusted to different levels, from strict to moderate, depending on the user&#8217;s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Bing itself is not associated with data breaches, multiple data breaches from associated Microsoft servers have exposed Bing data, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2020\/09\/23\/microsoft_leaks_over_65tb_bing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">search results<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/pro\/security\/microsoft-data-breach-exposes-employee-data-company-files-online\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">employee data<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The security company UpGuard gives Bing a score of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upguard.com\/security-report\/microsoft-bing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">735 out of 950<\/a>. The company notes that secure cookies aren&#8217;t used, no valid Content Security Policy is implemented, HttpOnly cookies aren&#8217;t used, and there are vulnerabilities to clickjacking and MIME confusion attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"is-bing-private\">Is Bing Private?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Depends on your definition of \u201cprivate,\u201d but generally speaking, it is not private.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like most search engines, Bing collects data to improve search results and personalize the user experience. This includes search history, location data, and other information that helps refine search outcomes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft provides users with tools to manage how their data is collected and used, such as viewing and deleting search history, adjusting privacy settings, and opting out of personalized ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, France\u2019s data privacy watchdog fined Microsoft $63 million for Bing cookie violations. In 2023, Microsoft made news after its Bing AI chatbot threatened to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/technology\/microsoft-ai-chatbot-threatens-expose-personal-info-ruin-users-reputation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expose a user\u2019s personal information<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"759\" height=\"987\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/bingthreat-1.png\" alt=\"Bing threatens to expose user\" class=\"wp-image-13410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/bingthreat-1.png 759w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/bingthreat-1-231x300.png 231w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 759px) 100vw, 759px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bing\u2019s privacy policy is the same as <a href=\"https:\/\/privacy.microsoft.com\/en-us\/privacystatement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft\u2019s overall policy<\/a>. It is fairly detailed and explains how data is collected, stored, and used.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terms of Service; Didn\u2019t Read (ToS;DR), a project that rates internet services\u2019 terms of service and privacy policies, gives Microsoft Services a <a href=\"https:\/\/tosdr.org\/en\/service\/244\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grade E<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the potential concerns flagged by ToS;DR are the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The service can delete specific content without notice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It may collect, use, and share location data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Third-party cookies are used for advertising.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many different types of data are collected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The service can delete your account without notice or reason.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the plus side, ToS;DR says that you can request access to and deletion of personal data and opt out of targeted advertising.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Common Sense Privacy Program, which evaluates internet services\u2019 privacy policies, gives Bing a rating of 75% out of 100%. This is a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/privacy.commonsense.org\/evaluation\/Microsoft-Bing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Warning<\/a>,\u201d meaning Bing \u201cDoes not meet our recommendations for privacy and security practices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program highlighted issues such as sharing personal information for third-party marketing and creating and using data profiles for personalized advertisements. On a positive note, it says that personal information is not sold or rented to third parties.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-improve-your-safety-and-privacy-on-bing\">How to Improve Your Safety and Privacy On Bing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the steps below for a more private and secure experience while using Bing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Manage search history.<\/strong> To clear your search history, go to the Bing settings or your Microsoft account&#8217;s privacy dashboard.
